Sacred Mount Hua near Huayin in Shaanxi

Amazing view from north peak to east peak

Mount Hua is located in Shaanxi district, about 100 kilometers east of the city Xi’an, near the city Huayin. It is one of the Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism in China.

Historically Hua was the location of several influential Taoist temples and well known for the practice of traditional martial arts from China.

In order to climb the mountain, thousands of steps have been cut into the rock to facilitate ascending and descending.

In the area are many beautiful temples, monasteries, pagoda’s, bridges and towers to visit, and it is a remarkable attraction in Shaanxi district next to the terracotta army of Qin.

Huashan, in Shaanxi district in China

The Taoist Five Great Mountains are arranged according to the five cardinal directions of Chinese geomancy, which includes the center as a direction.

East: Tài Shān, literally Leading Peaceful Mountain, in Shāndōng (1,545 m); west: Huà Shān, Splendid Mountain, in Shănxī (1,997 m), south: (Nán) Héng Shān, Balancing Mountain, in Húnán (1,290 m).

North: (Běi) Héng Shān, literally Permanent Mountain, Shānxī (2,017 m) and center, Sōng Shān, Lofty Mountain, Hénán, 1,494 m
